British Citizenship
There are various routes to obtaining Citizenship, whether this is through Registration, by Operation of Law or Naturalisation. However, the most common route is to obtain Citizenship by Naturalising.
You will be eligible to apply for British citizenship by naturalisation if:
-
You are 18 years old or more
-
You are a person of good character, for example, you have a clean criminal record and have not broken any Immigration Laws either
-
You wish to continue residing in the UK
-
You have passed both an acceptable English Language Test and Life in the UK Test
-
You have lived in the UK for at least the 5 years before the date of your application
-
You have NOT spent any more than 450 days outside the UK during those 5 years
-
You have NOT spent any more than 90 days outside the UK in the last 12 months
-
You must have held ILR (indefinite leave to remain) status for at least 12 months prior to making your application
Note: If you and other family members are able to apply for citizenship, I recommend that the applications are made at the same time. Please feel free to contact me if you are unsure as to whether you are eligible to apply to become a Citizen.
